Remembrance Sunday 2026

ORDER OF SERVICE

WELCOME

OPENING PRAYER
’This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end: they are new every morning.’
(Lamentations 3:21-23)
As we gather as community here in Studley this morning at this service of Remembrance we meet in the presence of God.  We pray for all who in bereavement, disability and pain continue to suffer the consequences of fighting and terror.
We remember with thanksgiving and sorrow  those whose lives in wars and conflicts past and present have been given and taken away.
AMEN

THE EXHORTATION
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
We will remember them.

READING
Romans 12:9-10,14-18
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.  Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

SHORT REFLECTION

HYMN            (to the tune Jerusalem)
1 We come to you, O Lord our God,
bringing our thanks for mercies past:
for battles done and blessings shared,
for those who served and put self last.
And now we ask forgiveness, Lord,
for sins which stain our nation's soul.
Grant us your pardon and your peace.
Come, heal our land and make us whole.

2 Help us to guard the gift of peace,
hope of the brave who fought and died.
May neighbours live in harmony
and races flourish side by side.
Peace on the earth, in homes and hearts;
let battles cease and barriers fall.
Peace with our God through Jesus Christ,
the Prince of Peace and Lord of all.

PRAYERS
Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict and ask that God may give us peace: For the service men and women who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God; may God give peace.
God give peace.

For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss; may God give peace.
God give peace.

For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return; may God give peace.
God give peace.

For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatred of humanity; may God give peace.
God give peace.

For peacemakers and peacekeepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free; may God give peace.
God give peace.

For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership, political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace; may God give peace.
God give peace.

God of truth and justice, we hold before you those whose memory we cherish, and those whose names we will never know. Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm. As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and forever.
Amen.

All join together in the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass
against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power,
and the glory
for ever and ever.
Amen

NATIONAL ANTHEM
God save our gracious King,
Long live our noble King,
God save the King!
Send him victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the King!

BLESSING & DISMISSAL
God grant to the living grace, to the departed rest, to the Church, the King, the Commonwealth and all people, unity, peace and concord, and to us and all God’s servants, life everlasting; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Go in the love and peace of Christ.
Thanks be to God

Planning your Visit

New to Church?

00 Welcome Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope our website helps you to find out everything you want to know about our Church.

Some key information about the church...

Where & when does the church meet?

Our Church meets every Sunday at 10.45 am for our Sunday Service.

We meet at:
Studley Methodist Church
Alcester Road
Studley
Warwickshire
B80 7NJ

You can see a map on our contact us page.

There is limited parking available on the road outside the Church.  There is a public car park in Pool Road; a footpath leads behind Studley Infants School to the road nearly opposite the Church.

What should I expect when I visit the church?

You will receive a very warm welcome, particularly from the Door Steward, who will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go.
Each service is different, but will normally include hymn singing, bible reading, prayers and a sermon.
An offering for the work of the Church and the wider Methodist Circuit is usually taken.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service where there is plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

What happens to the children at church?

Although we get few children visiting, we will provide activities suitable for the children's age.

Is there a dress code?

No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?

Not at all!
You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.

I have more questions, how can I get in touch and ask them.

Please feel free to contact us. If you want to know more about our leaders, please visit our Staff and Leadership page.
